Vitalik Buterin sets ambitious Ethereum targets for 2025 amid surging user engagement.
The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, revealed a series of ambitious objectives for the upcoming phase of the platform’s evolution, aligning with a new benchmark for user engagement in the ecosystem.
In a post dated April 30, Buterin detailed crucial areas of emphasis for 2025, such as achieving quicker transaction finality, implementing a stateless client framework, enhancing privacy measures, and bolstering decentralization throughout the network.
This announcement coincides with Ethereum reaching a milestone of active users. Recent data indicates that more than 15.4 million unique addresses engaged with Ethereum-based services in the last week, with approximately 13.45 million utilizing Layer-2 solutions.
A priority for Buterin is the exploration of single-slot finality, a protocol update aimed at minimizing the transaction finalization time to just 12 seconds.
He also highlighted the significance of stateless clients, which would transfer the responsibility of storing Ethereum’s complete state from network nodes to end-users, thereby enhancing scalability and robustness.
Privacy is a recurring focus in Buterin’s agenda. Following his earlier outline on Ethereum’s privacy strategy, he reiterated the necessity of developing user-friendly tools that maintain confidentiality while ensuring transparency and security.
Buterin also conveyed a broader interest in the Ethereum ecosystem that goes beyond mere technical improvements. His strategic plan includes initiatives to foster decentralized infrastructure, encrypted communication platforms, better developer resources, and innovative approaches to open-source funding and governance.
He expressed particular enthusiasm for creating systems that enable reliable information sharing, including prediction markets and other new tools designed for collaborative organization.
Although Buterin may not be involved in every aspect of Ethereum’s development, he acknowledged that increasing the gas limit and enhancing peer-to-peer communication are crucial goals for the overall developer community.
His renewed emphasis on research follows recent organizational shifts within the Ethereum Foundation, granting him more flexibility to explore long-term innovations. Co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak remarked that Buterin’s participation often leads to significant advancements within the ecosystem.
