Metaplanet, Japan’s Bitcoin HODLer, Plans to Acquire Additional BTC by Issuing $25M in Bonds
Tokyo’s Metaplanet (3350) has raised 3.6 billion yen (approximately $24.8 million) through bond issuance aimed at expanding its bitcoin (BTC) holdings, which have now exceeded 5,000 BTC.
The company announced that EVO FUND purchased the entire bond issuance. These bonds do not accrue interest and are set for redemption at their face value on October 31, 2025, unless the bondholder opts for early repayment.
Funds from this bond will be allocated exclusively for acquiring BTC, aligning with a plan outlined earlier in the year that included details on stock acquisition rights.
Metaplanet anticipates that the capital required for bond redemption will be sourced from the exercise of its stock acquisition rights, indicating that investor interest in these equity-linked instruments may determine the repayment capability.
Should the returns from these rights surpass specified thresholds, Metaplanet may choose to redeem portions of the bonds early. Recently, Metaplanet shares experienced a notable rise, closing at 428 yen, representing an increase of 8.6% in the last trading session.
