Co-Founder of Ethereum, Anthony Di Iorio
Ethereum co-founder Anthony Di Iorio expressed his belief that the blockchain was not designed to compete with Bitcoin but rather to serve as an alternative.
During a talk at Consensus 2025, Di Iorio reflected on his experience in the early days of Ethereum, emphasizing his foresight regarding the project’s potential for growth. He mentioned, “We could sense and feel that it was gaining traction.”
As one of Ethereum’s eight co-founders, Di Iorio initially entered the cryptocurrency space through Bitcoin advocacy. He organized Bitcoin meetups in Toronto back in 2012, where he met Vitalik Buterin, who authored the Ethereum whitepaper shared with the other co-founders.
Despite his ongoing support for Bitcoin, Di Iorio has suggested that “eventually, Ethereum may surpass it in market capitalization.”
He added, “Considering the numerous use cases and the value being generated by Ethereum, it stands a good chance of possibly surpassing Bitcoin.”
After leaving the Ethereum Foundation, Di Iorio established Decentral in 2014, which is recognized for developing the Jaxx Liberty crypto wallet. In 2022, he initiated Andiami, aiming to combine hardware, tokenomics, and game theory to address centralization issues in decentralized networks.
