Metaplanet Acquires an Additional 1,004 Bitcoin, Boosting Its Total BTC Holdings to Exceed $800 Million

Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 1,004 bitcoins, investing roughly $104.3 million, which increases its total bitcoin holdings to 7,800 BTC.

According to a disclosure issued on Monday, the average cost for this latest acquisition was $103,873 for each bitcoin.

Currently, the company’s overall bitcoin holdings, bought at an average price of $91,300 per BTC, are valued at over $806 million based on prevailing market rates. This acquisition aligns with Metaplanet’s strategic objective of amassing 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.

Starting its bitcoin purchases in April 2024, the firm has adopted a treasury strategy similar to those employed by other companies, such as Strategy (MSTR).

This recent acquisition comes as bitcoin remains close to its all-time peak, trading around $103,343 as of the latest update. The wider cryptocurrency market has seen a resurgence in recent weeks, driven by positive macroeconomic sentiment.

To fund its bitcoin purchases, Metaplanet has utilized several bond sales, recently completing its 15th bond issuance, which totaled $15 million.
