FIFA Reinforces Its Web3 Goals by Developing a Blockchain Powered by Avalanche
FIFA, the international governing body of football, is set to utilize Avalanche’s infrastructure to establish its own distinctive layer-1 blockchain.
The FIFA Blockchain represents a customizable layer-1 solution built on Avalanche’s technology, often referred to as a subnet. This announcement follows a significant update to the Avalanche network, known as Avalanche9000, which aims to attract developers and inspire the creation of tailored layer-1 blockchains.
This is not FIFA’s inaugural venture into the blockchain and cryptocurrency domain. In 2022, the organization launched a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Algorand blockchain in anticipation of the Qatar World Cup. Back in April, FIFA hinted at moving its collection to an EVM-compatible blockchain while continuing its exploration of Web3 opportunities.
The initial excitement surrounding NFTs, which prompted numerous organizations and businesses to engage in the trend, has largely faded after a challenging period for the cryptocurrency market. Nonetheless, FIFA’s ongoing focus on blockchain suggests that interest in blockchain technology remains, with large companies eager to explore this space.
John Nahas, the chief business officer at Ava Labs, remarked in a statement that Avalanche is tailored for enterprises aiming to create personalized, high-performance blockchain solutions. He noted that FIFA’s choice to launch its layer-1 on Avalanche underscores the platform’s capacity to facilitate applications on a global scale with efficacy and security.
At present, FIFA only possesses a World Cup NFT collection along with a digital collectibles marketplace but did not disclose any additional plans for further releases on its new blockchain.
