Square Tests Live Bitcoin (BTC) Transactions in Vegas, Aims for Complete Customer Access by 2026

Jack Dorsey’s Square is advancing its bitcoin payment capabilities at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas this week.

For a duration of three days, the company is testing a system allowing participants to buy items using bitcoin by simply scanning a barcode. These transactions are processed almost instantly through the Lightning Network, while Square manages live exchange rate calculations and transaction confirmations, as stated in a company announcement.

The company aims to expand access to this service for a wider clientele by later this year, with a goal of making it available to all users by 2026, subject to securing necessary regulatory approvals.

Miles Suter, Bitcoin Product Lead at Block (XYZ), Square’s parent company, emphasized, “We envision a system of open, decentralized, equitable, fast, and affordable currency for all, which is precisely what we aspire to offer to our Square sellers.”
