Bybit Receives MiCA License in Austria for Crypto Exchange Operations

Crypto exchange Bybit has received an official license in Austria that aligns with the European regulations for digital assets, known as the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework, as reported by the local regulatory authority, FMA.

The new MiCA regulations in Europe took effect at the beginning of this year, prompting companies to choose the most suitable EU member state to establish their operations and extend their services throughout the 27-member trading union.

Austria is also home to Bitpanda, another crypto trading platform that is compliant with MiCA and has acquired a license in Germany as well.

Founded in 2018 by Ben Zhou, Bybit has emerged as the world’s second-largest exchange by trading volume, according to CoinMarketCap. In 2022, it relocated its headquarters from Singapore to Dubai.

In February 2025, Bybit suffered a security breach that resulted in the theft of $1.5 billion worth of assets, marking it as the largest crypto heist to date.

Bybit has yet to respond to inquiries for further information.
